Successful Movie Buy-Out!
By: Sydney, Josh, April and Leah

Our “Plasticised” movie buy-out was a success! With the help of the staff, students, and of course the AV Crew of NPSS, we achieved our hope for an inspiring and educational afternoon spreading awareness about the effects plastic has on our oceans. Various classes bought out for our half price deal, and many more bought out individually at lunch. By the time we started the documentary, the cafeteria was full of students awaiting the film. We were very pleased with the number of students and staff who attended this event, and remained quiet and attentive for the duration. The documentary we showed highlighted a sea expedition investigating plastic in the ocean, and we felt it was the perfect choice as it strongly pertained to our UN Global Goal, goal 14. We created a follow up slide show to present after the film, explaining our Global Goal, our hashtag, (#JoiningTheMarineTeam) and the purpose of the movie buy-out. Despite the nerves, we got up on stage and taught NPSS all about our project and why we felt raising money and spreading awareness about plastic pollution in oceans is important to us. It was a great way to bring the event to a close, and help students understand that the buy-out was not just for fun. Overall, we are very pleased with the outcome of our entire event!

This morning we counted the proceeds we raised to donate to the WWF’s ocean sector, and so far we are ecstatic with the fact that we surpassed our goal of $100, as we have currently funded more than $150! The Marine Team would love to thank all students, staff, custodians for assisting in making the buy-out a success! We’re glad you could all attend as well as very grateful for your contributions and efforts in making the world a better place!
