Another Friday the 13th Goes Down in History
Blogged by Emily
Friday the 13th causes fear for many. Experts believe that a combination of the number 13 (an irregular number) and Friday are unlucky. There are many different reasons why the number 13 is unlucky, some of which are because Judas was the 13th guest at the last supper. There are 12 months in a year and 12 Olympic Gods; not 13.  Friday was unlucky in some cases like when Eve gave Adam the apple; they were banished the following Friday, and Good Friday is the day Jesus was crucified. In some Toronto buildings the elevators will not have a 13th floor; they skip directly to the 14th. People who fear Friday the 13th (or the number 13 in general) suffer from something called triskaidekaphobia.
A lot of tragic events in history have occurred on a Friday the 13th. Five bombs
destroyed the Palace Chapel in 1940, there was a huge storm in Bangladesh in 1970, an unusually early snowstorm in Buffalo in 2006, and so much more. Many tragic events have occurred over the course of history whether it was on a 13th or a Friday, and there will be more to come. By Friday, April 13th, 2029 scientists believe that an asteroid will make a very close encounter with our planet. However, that is the future which we do not need to worry about yet. This past Friday the 13th, Paris had a terrorist attack, Japan and Mexico had an earthquake, a funeral was bombed in Baghdad, and there was a suicide bombing in Beirut. Thousands of people are grieving the loss of loved ones. We are all praying together for all of the lives lost. Many countries have shown their support to France by illuminating the streets with the colour of the France flag; blue, white, and red.
When France lost its light, the world's lights turned on. France supported the United States after 9/11 so now it is the world's turn to support France. We must always stay together as a nation.

  1. Wow! Very effective and attention catching. It seems not to be just coincidence that many, many bad things happen on Fridays especially on Friday the 13th. I am happy that someone has mentioned that there was more heartbreak in the world last Friday than just in Paris, France.

It is so crazy how so many people died on the one day and it just gives people the reason to fear Friday the 13th more.Good job picking an issue that is recent and popular in the media now.
