ways-sponsor-village-image3.jpgAs many students, staff and blog followers know, our group has designed and is in the process of selling T-Shirts, with all proceeds going to Canadian Feed The Children. Although we believe that this is a great way to raise funds for an impoverished village, some people can be skeptical about where the funds go, and how they will be utilized within the community. We thought it would be a great idea to share how the funds from the t-shirt sales will positively impact more than 4000 lives…

ways-sponsor-village-gelan-image2.jpgIn Gelan Idero, education is a constant problem- both for boys and girls, as there is no school in the village. Every child who is privileged with the chance at an education, must travel 5-10km everyday to attend school, exposing them to abduction and rape. Furthermore, 60% of school-aged girls do not receive an education, typically because their parents cannot afford to send them, or cultural expectations hold them back. Your purchase of a T-Shirt will help Canadian Feed The Children build a community school, which is free and accessible for all genders. The goal is to make education mandatory and normalized in not only in Gelan Idero, but within the African Culture. Purchasing a shirt can give a child a chance at an education… something that is priceless.

In 2014, Canadian Feed The Children built a local health office in Gelan Idero, making some health care accessible for parts of the large community, however 90% of the illnesses that are recorded, especially in children are preventable. They can also be traced back to an unhealthy and uncleansed water sources. A major goal for CFTC is to install clean fountains and pumps throughout the village, improving the health and living conditions of thousands of men, women and children!! Your purchase of a t-shirt or sweater will support the village in managing a water sanitation program… something that could save a life.

ways-sponsor-village-gelan-image3.jpgGelan Idero is located within a usually prosperous agro-ecological zone, with sustainable soil that is needed for cereal crops. In the last decade, inconsistency in rainfall, including drought and flooding has majorly hindered the progressions of the community. According to all reports, 97% of families living within the community, have lived with food scarcity. Continued degradation of soil fertility adds to the extremes of drought. CFTC plans on educating and helping the community to come up with innovative ways of farming and growing their local economy. Buying a T-shirt supports growth of the local economy, and feeds hungry stomachs… something that empowers the community!

There is only 11 days left to get your own shirts and sweaters!!
All proceeds go directly towards Canadian Feed The Children Programs, like the ones mentioned above. Here is the link that will change lives;
