Let us, Poverty 2 Power group tell you why: Poverty is a type of human violence that doesn't just affect the body but also the human mind. For example, young children who live in poverty often have to fend for themselves because their parent are sick of not around to care for them, think how that affects their state of mind!

Here’s a little eye opener about poverty.

n this new century, millions of people in the world's poorest countries remain imprisoned, enslaved, and in chains. They are trapped in the prison of poverty. It is time to set them free. Like slavery and apartheid, poverty is not natural. It is man-made and it can be overcome and eradicated by the actions of human beings. And overcoming poverty is not a gesture of charity. It is an act of justice. It is the protection of a fundamental human right, the right to dignity and a decent life. While poverty persists, there is no true freedom."

  2. I really enjoyed the quote you chose by Nelson Mandela--it helped to illustrate the issue for me. Can you tell us why this specific issue is important to you on a personal level? For example, why poverty? Why is this the issue that you are connected to? My students are also sharing which social justice issues they feel are important. Please stop by and take a look at their ideas:) mrsmcraes.blogspot.ca
