Why are People Hungry for no Reason?

In today’s society many people are going hungry, are in a constant struggle to feed their families and don’t know when their next meal is going to be. Hunger is an issue that affects people all around us. Hunger exists in people such as your friends, your family and people you pass on the streets. It is an issue that are many people are great at hiding but not an issue that isn’t pressing in today’s world.

The United Nations Global Goals is trying to conquer a goal to end hunger everywhere by 2030. This goal will be made possible with a rise of food donation. There is enough food for double the population and more, the problem is there is not enough people willing to donate. A lot of people don’t see food as a very big deal, we do not appreciate it enough. It would only be until we were left hungry for a long period of time that we would understand the struggle others live in.

As a part of our grade twelve World Issue’s class, our group is making an effort to help those who are hungry in our community. We are hoping to do this by encouraging students at our highschool, as well as people in our community to donate any extra food they may have to the food bank in our town.

As we have already chosen our issue, our goals, how we are going to do it and have gotten approved by our principal, our next step is to act on it. In yesterday’s class we sent emails out to the schools in our community hoping to present a slideshow on the importance of food donation, as well as run a food drive at these schools. Today, we will move forward with the feedback of those emails and start planning for our future actions, such as stating a date and time.

This issue is important to us because in such a small town, it is apparent in many places. One of the biggest ways you can tell that a town is in need of food, is to visit the local food bank. Often times, food banks will be packed with people looking for food, and other times there is no food to give away. This is the shocking reality of today’s society. With a country like Canada that has so much, we give away so little.

We are encouraging people to act with us in this goal to end hunger all over the world. Donate food, the people who receive it may be closer to you than you think.
