Unacceptable Defilement of Women in Myanmar

Although war is known as a conflict that occurs between civilization, it is normally defined by it’s by life-threatening violence, destruction, and death of innocent lives. When it comes to war almost everyone suffers, but in recent “ethnic cleansing” in Myanmar, Rohingya women and girls have been largely in effect. They have been suffering because of Myanmar security forces, raping, defiling them, and sometimes getting murdered. These methods of abuse toward them are being used as a tactic to humiliate and wound Rohingya women. In terms of the rape cases, the attackers were uniformed Myanmar soldiers most with families of their own. The question that we would like answered is why are these women getting raped? Also how might this method result in other issues in the country? Not only is this method cruel, but it seems more realistic and more reasonable if the government were to let the women free instead of raping them. Also, in most cases if they were to let them go, most women who were let free would have children after the attack. If this were to happen they will most likely raise their child as a Rohingya. After doing research, we ended up finding an answer when we came across a speech that Angelina Jolie gave recently. She talked about  rape in war zones.
“ it is a myth that rape in an inevitable part of conflict. There is nothing inevitable about it. It is a weapon of war aimed at civilians. It has nothing to do with sex,and everything to do with power.” - Angelina Jolie
“They feel above the law because the law rarely touches them and society tolerates them”- Angelina Jolie
Her speech made us understand that rape is a weapon as powerful as a nuclear bomb and it needs to stop. All the perpetrators should get arrested and charged for there crimes like any other person who commits an act of offence .
