Is it a Hollywood Problem? or a Cultural Problem?
Blogged by: Meg, Zaheela, Kenz, Ayden, Rachel

Recently Hollywood’s leading male moguls have been getting slammed with sexual assault allegations, stars from Kevin spacey to Harvey Weinstein have been accused, it has started a global conversation.  These men have been allegedly sexually assaulting young actresses and sometimes actors for years. They abuse their position of power, but is this just a problem in Hollywood or is this a cultural norm that men think it's okay to assault women.

Is assault a cultural norm?
For hundreds of year`s cultural norms such as male honor, masculinity and sexual entitlement, have been the breeding ground for acceptance of sexual assault.
Women are told from a young age not to dress a certain way, so they won't be mistaken for “wanting it”.
Why should women be ashamed of their bodies, just because society tells them so? This is something in society that needs to be changed.  Women shouldn't have to be modest to be respected.
How can we change this?
Whenever we talk about assault, we always talk to women about what they can do to stop sexual assault, but to solve this problem we should really be talking to men and boys. We have to raise males into a society where it is unacceptable to harass or sexually assault anyone. Raising our boys with feminist ideals and teaching them to respect women’s bodies is the only way to resolve this issue.
