The Beginning of Equality
Blogged by Emily, Jessica, Avrielle, Avery, and Cassidy

Why we chose equality...

The United Nations has created 17 sustainability goals which they wish to achieve by 2030. Goal number five focuses on gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls. Women and girls are discriminated, they do not have equal opportunities for leadership. The United Nations wants to eliminate violence and harmful practises for women and girls. We chose to focus on gender equality because we feel young children are not well educated on this topic.

What we are doing...

For this project we are working towards creating a local and global impact on society. Our group has recently received approval to visit our local elementary schools to educate children from grades four to eight and sell them gingerbread cookies for gender empowerment. Within our own school we are going to sell gingerbread cookies as well. With the help of the cosmetology class we have set aside a Friday to host a client day so customers can pay $5.00 to get their hair and nails done. Handmade braceletes will be sold at the door as well. The Friday will be announced later this month. All of the money we raise through the cookies and the client day will be sent to the foundation Because I am a Girl. We look forward to meeting new people and positively impacting the lives of younger boys and girls.
