Global Refugee Crisis
Why Should You Care?
By: Kennedy

The refugee crisis has become a growing concern in our global community, the issue continues to worsen while civil conflicts are at a peak in certain countries. The number of refugees and internally displaced now stands at more than 65 million, the largest number ever recorded. Failure to respond to and solve the refugee crisis will risk further conflict and cause further refugee flows.

Syria
The civil war that started in 2011, is one of the largest drivers of the global refugee crisis. This war has left nearly 65 million people displaced, neighbouring countries are no longer able to support these refugees. Syrian refugees are now looking to Europe to take them and their families in. Several rounds of peace talks have failed to put an end the fighting.

Myanmar
Decades of conflict and political repression in Myanmar have left 451 800 people living as refugees or in refugee like situations. The Rohingya people of Myanmar have been faced with extreme prejudice enough to force them to uproot their lives and become refugees. Most of these people have fled to Thailand or Bangladesh, where they are
made to live in camps under horrible conditions without the basic necessities of life.
