REDUCE, REUSE, REPRINT!
By: Amy, Cassidy, Jenna, Stephen & Brandon

Today's progress: we made posters for our campaign to put up around our school next week!

Introducing Green Bins into our school!

Blogged by: Abie & The Green Team
Our environmental group is working on improving the schools recycling by introducing  green bins, a green team who will be in charge of them, spreading awareness of how to recycle properly and an audit, which means we will be walking around the school and checking to see if things like lights and projectors are on when not in and use and if the garbage and recycling are contaminated.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               So far we have met to talk to Mr. Ford who already uses green bins in his classroom and has been extremely helpful in giving us advice and providing us with green bins and bin liners. We have also labeled the recycling bins in the hallway and cafeteria, and now we have started to make posters.                                                                                                                                                                         If you want to join the green team comment below to let us know.

Art Gone Green!

Eco Art show is coming to NPSS!!
Blogged by Rosalyn, Tyler P. and Kayla
Do you have an interest in painting, poetry, photography, general art and the environment? Do you have a creative idea that you would like to share? The NPSS "Art Gone Green" exhibit is a great way to show off, display and promote your artwork, as well as spreading awareness about our communities ecological footprint!

We are planning to run an exciting art exhibit, that will shock and capture the attention of students, staff and guests to Nottawasaga Pines! We are asking students to create art displaying their interpretations of our school, community and worldwide ecological footprint. Art pieces could include;
  • Paintings
  • Drawings/Sketches
  • Pottery
  • Photography
  • Poetry
  • And any other creative ideas you may have!!!

Our hope with this project is that these art pieces will help students, staff and guests to develop a greater understanding and passion for our school and communities Ecological Footprint!! Around the exhibit, shocking and surprising facts about the environment will be displayed, as well as tips and tricks to help reduce your personal negative impact on the environment.

As of now, our group is working on promoting the event, to insure we get a variety of artwork contributing to the exhibit. We are doing this by designing posters and writing creative announcements that will get the attention of artistic students in our school! In the near future, we will be visiting all of the current Art Classes, as well as English classes, to promote and provide information on the event.

Art is due to the organizers by Thursday November 27th

Thankyou so much for your support :)
This is the gallery space we will be using.  Lots of natural light and a great place to display art!

Nottawasga Pines Christmas Skate

Blogged by: Sarah , josh , Troy and Kyle

The NPSS environmental and resource management class is hosting a community wide skating event to promote recycling clothing and to support our local second hand store. The admission cost for this event is one new or used winter clothing item such as mittens, boots, jackets, sweaters pants etc...

The official date has not yet been determined, but it is hoped to be incorporated into one of the existing public skating times that the Essa Arena already hosts.

Here is a picture of one of the many phone calls that we're made to book the arena and to town council in attempt to find an available skating time.

Our next act is to attend the next town council meeting in hopes to get our idea approved.
E-Waste Collection comes to NPSS!
Blogged by: Jason, Austin and Tyler A.

Our group is trying to help our environment, by collecting and spreading awareness about e-waste. We are finalizing our posters and are making a box to place outside of our school to collect the e-waste. We don't have a certain date yet, however we are thinking in the next couple of weeks. If you have any ideas or any questions, please leave a comment. Thanks !!

Here's a sample of a poster we've designed.

REDUCE, REUSE, REPRINT!
Blogged by: Amy, Cassidy, Jenna, Stephen & Brandon

Our group is looking to reduce our ecological footprint by reusing t-shirts that our student body brings in. We will be using our schools Silk Screen printer to print new designs on their old plain t-shirts. Our plan is to sell these shirts with a selected design for a VERY low cost. We plan to do our campaign during lunch times near the end of November and into the beginning of December.

Today our T-shirt group disscused the prices and the process with our Art teacher Mr. Baker.

This is our group watching Mr. Baker explain the process of silk screening in the art room.

CLEAN AND GREEN
Blogged by Emily
Our group has the ball rolling. We have collected the items that we need and are now starting to put
them to use.

Maddy, Kayla and Maddie counting and sorting everything.

Since all of the items are recycled, Liam spent the class washing out cans, bottles and containers.

Our goal is very tedious and takes a lot of time, our next step is to join the Life Skills class to help us start paint the jars and some of the light bulbs.
