Global Consumption Facts

To promote the UN Global Goal 12 of sustainable consumption our group is holding a recycling drive. Here are some facts that show why we need sustainable consumption.
- 3 billion tonnes of food is wasted every year while almost 1 billion people go undernourished
and another 1 billion hungry.
- The US and Canada, with 5.2% of the world’s population, are responsible for 31.5%
of consumption.
- The illustration to the left shows the planets needed to sustain the world at different countries’ levels of consumption
- The illustration below illustrates how much the western world spends on products, and how these could have been used to solve most of previous UN millennium goals
