Inventions to change the world

The more time passes by on earth, the more troubles we are encountering as humans. Our cities are expanding every year and pollution is a huge problem wherever we go, whether it is our oceans or the cities we live in. Technology is advancing quickly and can be extremely useful. In this inquiry I will talk about a few inventions that could help a lot with reducing pollution and how they can make our cities more liveable if they are used.

When we started this inquiry I had a completely different idea but then I started looking at inventions that could help with making cities better. I would not get into too much details about those today but I was surprised that most of the best inventions were created by young adults. I think that is great since these people still have a long time to keep creating and lead our future generations towards the right direction.

I find it impressive that students are able to find these kind of ideas and make them happen. These people are the people who can have the biggest influence in changing the world in the future

Plastic Water Bottles Ruining The Environment!

Throughout my Inquiry I have been focusing on the negative effects of plastic water bottles on the environment. Something that could help encourage the people to change the environment is to let them bring in their own reusable water bottles into recreational places like theatres. I would like to change the rule of no reusable water bottles in the Terra Theatre. Currently they only sell plastic water bottles in the theatre and prevent the use of reusables, the reasoning is of course for more money. I think that a small theatre like Terra should change this rule because it helps our community and it could encourage other theatres to change their rule too.

There are definitely a lot of positive and negative effects of plastic water bottles, but the main problem with them is the disposal. Plastic water bottles can take up to 700 years to begin composting. Toronto alone consumes an estimated 100 million bottles a year, imagine how many need to be disposed for the whole world. This is a photo of the way plastic water bottles from all over the world have been disposed in India. An easy way to start to change this is to support reusable water bottles. I believe I can achieve this goal.

Making the Liveable City: Re-designing a “Greener” Angus Ontario

In our inquiry we are redesigning Angus, to make it more energy efficient and liveable. We started by remaking a map of Angus, and making it more nature friendly, by putting in lots of green space, for recreation and nature. Also, we redesigned the houses, by putting in geothermal heating and cooling, also by using solar energy to power the house. Another thing we did to make our city great is we constructed lots of road, and railways, throughout the city for multiple ways of import and export.

Also, we put biking trails and everything is within walking distance, making life easier.

One more thing that our city has, that makes it so outstanding, is we have lots of jobs in town, including a lot of commercial buildings and factories. Our city is green, and  productive making it a very liveable city, is yours?

• Jobs

• Town Income
• Recreation Areas
• Import and Exports
• Transportation

Making cities livable is what's needed to have a striving, successful city. Without liveable cities life wouldn’t turn round. We hope that our liveable city makes a good example for cities to come.

Rising energy costs and environmental concerns are causing dairy farmers to after their management practices. More and more dairy farmers across canada and the world are starting to farm green. Dairy farmers are starting to implant windmills, solar panels, and even energy efficient light. Dairy farmers are now trying to save the enviroment and make our world of agriculture a better place. Dairy farming has slowly been developing a healthy way to create and use energy. It is becoming more and more popular to use solar panels and windmills as a cost- effcient way to create energy and cheaper!

On an average dairy farm with a head of 60 cows, a dairy farm uses around 180 kw a day. A wind turbine creates 16,000 kW on an average day. One solar panel creates 200 watts of energy on an average day. 5 solar panels create around 5 kWH a day.1000 watts is one kW.

Why is green energy so important?

Background knowledge:

We know that green energy is also known as renewable energy. Green energy does not harm the environment unlike other energy sources such as coal, and oil. Green energy is usually very expensive. Niagara Falls is an example of green energy, this is because the falls use a hydroelectric generator to produce energy.

What our inquiry is about:

We have chosen to investigate green energy because it’s something our group finds it a very interesting topic to talk about, and it seems to be very important to this day and age for everyone and everything on the earth.

Our plan to share:

Our plan to share our inquiry is using a presentation with an online quiz from Kahoot with questions that are answered in our presentation. We are sharing our findings to try to improve the use of green renewable energy over non renewable fossil fuels.

Why grow local organic food?

In a “perfect” environmentally friendly community food would be grown locally because it’s better for the environment. We’re trying this for ourselves, to create a garden and grow our own vegetables. 

Having local vegetables is better for the environment because:

• No pollution is made while transporting the food
• Local food is healthier because no pesticides or preservatives are used
• Local food is better for the economy because farmers would make full retail price selling their crops to local customers

  Between our gardens we are growing radish, swiss chard, cucumbers, carrots, and tomatoes. We are going to give our organic vegetables to people that live near us in our community. This shows that no pollution or economic deficiency is required to grow our own food in a “perfect” community. Our garden is on a small scale, but if we can do this with leaving no footprint, then food in a environmentally friendly community could be completely green, efficient, cheap, healthy, local, and organic.

How will the Regen Villages look?

A Regen Village Is a community that will work together and also be environmentally friendly. It will support human life and nature around it. The Regen Villages is expected to hold up to 2 billion people in 2050.

Pros of Regen Villages

The photos above shows what these Regen Villages will look like in the morning, and at night. What Regen Villages will contain is gardiens in each home and one big community garden in the middle. For the electricity use the houses will be equipped with solar panels. The passive heating system and cooling system will help keep away stress of the electricity usage.

The Regen Villages will be equipped with a rechargeable car so people can take turns using it to get to work without having to use gas and destroy the environment. The community will also share the use of water and waste to resource.

In addition to all this there will be room for livestock, communal dining, playgrounds and community learning centures.

Cons of Regen Village

There will be some cons of the Regen Villages. The claimant and whether change can affect crops and stop food from growing, hungry animals will attack for food like wolfs for example, natural disasters could destroy the whole town if buildings are not made with a tough material, ect.

In my opinion the Regen Village sounds like a great idea and should be continued with
